Cleanway is a Greek manufacturer of home care and personal care products founded in 1987 by chemists Panayotis Zachmanoglou and Antonios Bonos.

The company develops and produces a wide portfolio for home and professional applications, serving both its own brands and private label partners. Research & Development

Cleanway’s product portfolio has been developed through an internal R&D department staffed by chemists, chemical engineers, environmental engineers and biologists.

The team collaborates with research institutions and accredited laboratories in Greece and Europe, including the National Hellenic Research Foundation and the Technical University of Denmark, supporting the development of innovative formulations and environmentally responsible solutions.

Research activity has included participation as leading partner in innovation programs such as Nano-UV-Extracts, which explored the use of natural bioactive compounds, resulting in peer-reviewed scientific publications.

Product development combines scientific research, regulatory compliance and market understanding to deliver formulations suitable for international markets and retail requirements.

The quality of the company's products and operations has been confirmed by certification bodies, competitions, independent laboratory and consumer evaluations.

European Competition Distinction

Distinction in a European Competition: in 2005 the company took 1st place in a European Competition held by the CARREFOUR Europe Group for the selection of the producer of private label liquid fabric softeners. It is worth noting that the largest factories producing similar products in the world (including McBRIDE, the largest producer of private label products in the world) participated in this competition and the evaluation was carried out by the French EUROFINS laboratory.

20 women between 45 and 65 years with dull skin, wrinkles and dark spots in their face applied Herbellis to face and neck, twice per day for 84 consecutive days.

Consumer bodies Awarded

They have been awarded by consumer bodies. Tango body emulsions were tested and evaluated by 1,105 people from the Greek consumer club zampple and 1,200 people from the Canadian TopBox club. In both Greece and Canada Tango quality was rated better or equal by market leaders.

International Award

International award. Penelope Olive body lotion won the first “Best Emerging Cosmetic Product” award at the Global Beauty and Wellness Awards (GBWA) in 2022.

Responsible Business Practices

Cleanway develops environmentally responsible products supported by ISO 14001 environmental management, ISO 14067 carbon footprint certification, RSPO membership, and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) applied to raw materials, formulations and packaging since 2011.

The company maintains equal opportunity employment policies, works with certified Greek and European suppliers, and chooses suppliers with environmental and social impact such as Fabric Republic.

It also supports organizations including the Hellenic Donkey Center, KYCLOS, Reto Hellas and Iliachtida, while co-founder Panayotis Zachmanoglou has been recognized by the UNESCO Piraeus and Islands Group for his longstanding social contribution.

1987-2004
  • 1987 — Launch of Cleanway’s first detergent brand, Questo.

  • 1994 — Entry into Greek supermarket chains with private-label products (Galaksias, Atlantik).

  • 2002 — Partnership with Carrefour and opening of the first production plant in Oinofita.

2006-2014
  • 2006: Fabric softener products were named “best in Europe” by Eurofin (French testing lab)

  • 2010: Cleanway entered the cosmetics sector

  • 2012: Construction of cosmetics manufacturing facility. Through R&D activities, cosmetic products were developed under the brand TANGO

  • 2014: Certified with ISO22716 for cosmetics

  • 2015: TANGO body milks got an award from a Greek consumers body
